Sophisticated Wolves

The Sophisticated Wolves mod aims to give wolves, and subsequently tamed dogs, better abilities in the game. It gives them a better sense of their surroundings so they are not completely dependent upon their owner. So that means while you may have tamed a wolf, it can still function in the environment without you and without you commanding them to just sit out of harm’s way.

Sophisticated wolves are actually separate animals from traditional wolves. So both will still spawn in your world. However, you can make a standard wolf sophisticated by giving it a dog treat. You can also name your wolves with the dog tag and the color of the name above them will correlate to their health; ranging from healthy white to injured red. Dog tags function differently than typical nametags as you can just right click on a wolf to name them with the dog tag instead of needing an anvil.

These wolves will also vary in type based on the biome they are found or spawned in.

Wolves will no longer rely on you for feeding them either. They’ll go off and find their own food. And they won’t be stuck by your side while you’re mining. They will wait a distance away from you until you finish but will still protect you from enemies if you are in danger. As soon as you turn around they’ll come back to you. And these wolves will also growl if an enemy is near!

Emerald & Obsidian Armor/Tools

This mod does exactly what its name suggests; it adds armor and tools made from obsidian and emerald. Emerald armor and tools provide a mid-point between iron and diamond and Obsidian tools go just beyond the durability of diamond. And as an added bonus Obsidian armor provides you with fire resistance as well.

You can even go a step beyond the standard sets and create reinforced armor for extra protection. Plus you’ll look significantly more menacing!

Emerald tools are slightly less durable than diamond tools but if you manage to obtain a great deal of obsidian, you’ll have much more success with those tools. Plus you can save your diamonds now rather than use them up creating tools and armor.

Craft++

Craft++ is a Minecraft Enhancement mod that aims to be more like an expansion of the vanilla world. It doesn’t feel quite like a mod and all the additions are natural and feel normal in the game. You’ll get new enchantments, items, and abilities that you’ll wish you had before.

The Blazing enchantment is a great way to quickly smelt blocks as you mine them. Add it to a pick axe and it works just like a furnace to automatically smelt the blocks as it breaks them. And the homing enchantment will aim right at your target and has 3 tiers. Tier 1 works at 32 blocks, tier 2 at 64 and tier 3 at 128.

Dynamite is now available and works just like throwable TNT! Just right click where you want to throw it and stand back!

Stone and Obsidian boats are stronger than the frail wood ones and Obsidian will work in lava.

Signs have also been completely reworked giving you some better flexibility when placing them. They won’t automatically bring up the text GUI when you place them. Instead you’ll need an ink sack to start writing on it after it’s been placed. You can even erase what you wrote with a sponge wipe!

And you can now make a crafting pad that allows you to craft right from your inventory. Simply right-click with it in your hand and the crafting GUI will pop up.

These are just a few of the many things you can do with this mod. Everything is configurable to truly make Minecraft the game you want it to be without being too overpowered.

Worms Mod

The Worms mod is a simple addition to Minecraft that gives a chance for worms, grubs or larvae to drop when digging in dirt, breaking cactus, or chopping logs.

The idea seems a little gross at first but it does provide a bit of realism to the game. It only seems natural that creepy crawlies will be found now and then with all the dirt and logs there is to dig through. The gross factor may come in when you realize you can eat these things. They give a low amount of health and saturation back but it’s great in a pinch.

If you want a little extra from these you can cook them in a furnace too. This mod definitely isn’t meant to replace a food source but may help you out if you’re far from a farm or if you simply haven’t started one yet. These guys may just save your life.

Zyin’s HUD

Zyin’s HUD is a fantastic addition to your screen display. It gives you a multitude of options to configure. From simple coordinate displays to elaborate mob info, this mod will seriously improve your Minecraft experience.

Mob info is a great addition for anyone knew to breeding or establishing an animal farm for the first time. It will give you the necessary info needed to breed by showing the type of food on the animals. The icon will disappear when they’ve been tamed or bred and will reappear when they’re ready again. Simply press the ‘o’ key and the stats will pop up automatically.

Durability info and Potion timers will put a display on your screen showing the life left in your tools as well as how long those potions have left before they wear off.

The Eating Aid and Weapon Swapper are quick options for streamlining your gameplay. Pressing F will switch your weapons between sword and bow. And pressing G will allow you to eat any food in your inventory even if it’s not in your hotbar.

Another great addition with this mod is Quick Deposit. It will automatically detect what’s in a certain chest and if you press X while opened it will select only those items to deposit. This works great if you’ve got a chest only designated for dirt or cobblestone, etc. Now you can keep things organized both quickly and efficiently.

BaM’s Grave

BaM’s Grave is a simple mod that aims to ease the headache of losing items when you die. It’s inevitable if you play the game with mobs active that you may end up six feet under at some point. This is incredibly frustrating at times especially if you have a massive amount of stuff in your inventory. Enter BaM’s Grave:

It will automatically create a burial plot at the point of your death. It will add your name and time of death to a headstone as well. You can find your items buried under the dirt in a chest.

In order for this mod to work though, you’ll need to always carry two chests in your inventory. This is so your items will have a place to be stored when you die. If you value the items in your inventory then this mod is a necessary addition to your game.

Geoactivity

The Geoactivity mod adds the ability to customize tools and armor in Minecraft. It adds 3 new types of coal that are necessary to create reinforced tools as well as some brand new tools. The new coals are Anthracite, Bituminous, and Lignite.

You’ll need a coal refiner as well as a crafting machine to create these new tools. The coal refiner will be used to make graphite to make carbon fiber that can then be made into carbon sticks. And the crafting machine is what allows you to craft and upgrade your tools/armor.

Reinforced tools are made simply by adding gold to iron tools. These will double in their abilities and strength. And you can even make advanced tools by combining gold and diamond to make Small Precious Alloys. The advanced tools are stronger than diamond and won’t ever break. You just need to recharge them with one of the new coals by shift-clicking while holding them. Just add the coal in the bottom slot and your tool is ready to use again.

A new and useful tool added with this mod is the Auto Stone Builder. It will auto-smelt stone blocks on the fly if you add them in the GUI (shift+click). Then you can place them with the tool so long as you have a steady supply of cobblestone in your inventory. You can also put stone bricks as the output option to auto-craft and place those as well.

Lastly you can craft new armors, the reinforced armor and the advanced armor. Reinforced armor is simply more durable than iron armor and advanced armor is like diamond armor and can be upgraded with perks. All you need to do is place a perk in the menu of the crafting machine as you craft a new piece of armor.

More Picks

The More Picks mod adds more pick axes to the game. More than just adding additional picks, though, this mod expands the durability of stone and wood picks to give you more variety and stronger tools.

All logs can now be made into individual picks. They all have the same durability so the difference is merely aesthetic. But what changes here is that they have four times the durability as a standard wooden pick.

You can now also make picks from andesite, diorite, and granite. These all have roughly three times the durability of standard stone picks. You can even make a chiseled stone pick which adds even more to the durability if you choose to craft this route instead.

And lastly you can craft Obsidian picks that are twice the durability of diamond picks but it comes at a price with both time and resources. You’ll need to make 3 compressed obsidian blocks, polish them, craft them into a pickaxe head, smelt that with an entire block of coal, and then assemble with two sticks.

Wireless Redstone

The Wireless Redstone mod adds a transmitter and receiver for redstone connections. This a great way to vastly increase the distance your redstone can go without laying long lines of redstone dust.

You simply need to set up a trasmitter and provide a power source to it. Then place a receiver wherever you need that power connected. It seems as though there’s no distance too far for reception either. So you can essentially set up a complicated redstone gate deep underground and then add a receiver wherever you need power.

Even better with this mod is the ability to receive signal to multiple sources so you don’t need to lay additional transmitters.

Blocklings

Blocklings are tamable mobs in Minecraft that may start out small but ultimately grow very large over time. Their main goal is protecting you in your travels. They can level up to 10 levels and can even be upgraded incrementally.

You can find them in forests or plains and tame them with flowers. And flowers are also used to heal them so be sure to keep some in your inventory. Once tamed, they’ll follow you around and attack your enemies when posing a threat. You can also have them sit down if you’d rather keep them out of harm’s way.

They will level up over time with each battle and they will max out their size at level 10 but they will still continue leveling beyond that. You can also craft upgrades to give your blockling special abilities and defenses. The upgrades will improve healing of the blockling, damage they can deal, their speed and their defense. You can even give your blockling weapons to fight with.

Blocklings can die in battle but rest assured that when they do they drop an item of themselves. This allows you to gather your blockling up and they’ll retain their level, although only their tier 1 upgrades will remain intact.

Gender Mod

The Gender Mod gives you the option to change your gender within the game. It’s not simply a skin for your character but an actual model change. So with it most skins you apply to it should carry over to the female model. The mod even adds female sound effects to further improve the overall experience.

You’ll also get the option to play as a child. Simply choose that option in the settings and you’ll retain all of what you had before, only a bit on the smaller side!

You’ll also notice a change in zombies throughout the game. You’ll now encounter female zombies in conjunction with the male ones.

Now with this mod you can more accurately portray yourself whether in multiplayer servers or simply on your own. Changing gender/age is as simple as pressing ‘g’ and change the settings in game.

Vanilla-Inspired Teleporter

The Vanilla-Inspired Teleporter aims to provide teleportation that fits in with the Minecraft aesthetic. It’s a simple block that works in a network of other teleporters creating a chain that can link many teleporters together.

It works simply by stepping on it or can require a key to access. You can put any block in the slot by right clicking the teleporter. This acts as the key and the next teleporter in the chain will require that same block in order to access it.

They can be be blocked by placing a block one or two spaces above the teleporter. This will prevent access to that particular teleporter and you will then skip to the next one in the line if it exists.

And they can also be locked by providing redstone to the desired teleporter. This will allow you to teleport from that one but won’t allow you to return to it. This could be useful for jail cells or mob farms or simply as one way teleporters.

You can even make unique keys that only you know about. This offers a level of secrecy to access things you may only want seen by yourself or a select group. The unique keys can be books with specific phrases written in them or exact copies of maps. Only those items can be used to unlock a particular teleporter.

Saltymod

The Saltymod adds salt to Minecraft. Its uses are largely aesthetic but there are some key features that make it worthwhile outside of adding new blocks. It can be found in ore form, grown via salt crystals, or salvaged from an evaporator.

Salt ore can be crafted into various decorative blocks, slabs and bricks. It can also be formed into lamps. The light is pretty low but works great in certain situations.

The salt in powder form can be used to pickle foods providing a slight extension of your hunger, which is great for long journeys. It can also be used to neutralize rotten flesh so now you’ll finally have a use for it!

You’ll also find salt lakes around the world and underneath them you’ll find blocks of mineral mud. You can create mud mask armor with this, which isn’t very durable but it will provide some health restoration over time. Be careful near water though as it will dissolve over time.
