Bloodmoon

The Bloodmoon mod adds an eerie and difficult new feature to Minecraft. By default it has a 5% chance of happening whenever the sun sets and if it does you had better be prepared for an onslaught of fast and difficult enemies.

The Bloodmoon strikes randomly but luckily you will get a brief warning ahead of time to prepare. This means you can either stay to fight or quickly find shelter.

If you happen to be stuck outdoors then torches may not aid in your fight. While they will provide a bit of light, most of the land will be drenched in red darkness. It’s very difficult to see any distance and mobs are merely shadows in the night.

Even worse is the fact that during the Bloodmoon you won’t be able to sleep it away. And on top of all that, mobs will be instantly drawn to you as soon as the moon rises. This is truly a fight or flight situation depending on how well equipped you are.

The saving grace with this mod is that the effects are only applied on the surface. So if you happen to find a cave or even dig one yourself, then you may be in the clear to wait out the night.

This mod is a great way to add some tension to your game. You won’t know exactly when the Bloodmoon will rise so it would be wise to keep yourself well stocked and prepared for it. This would be a perfect addition to any hardcore multiplayer server.

Advanced Inventory

The Advanced Inventory Mod gives you many customizations for your inventory adding both more space and more functionality. There are 6 upgrades that each unlock a new slot. You can simply craft the emerald upgrade to unlock all slots at once or go in intervals.

To open the advanced inventory, simply tap ‘R’. With each new slot you can also craft modifiers that give specific slots new abilities. The Item provider is a great addition that will replace any item you direct it to. So essentially you can set it to replace your tools as they deplete but you can also set it to replace building blocks if you’re placing many of the same blocks in a row.

The item crafter is a great way to speed up crafting of items you need regularly. Say you often craft ladders or rails and don’t feel like constantly making the recipe. Just set the recipe in the crafter settings and keep that slot stocked with the necessary items. Then just click the item you want and it will auto-craft it for you. The recipe stays there as long as you want it to and you can set up to 9 different recipes per modifier.

The filter and collector modifiers work excellent together by automatically collecting any of the blocks you designate. So if you want this particular slot to only hold your wood blocks, it will take any new blocks you chop down and put them in that slot only.

And the item voider acts as a deletion tool of any items you don’t want to hold onto. Rotten flesh is a great one to set for this and if you combine it with the item collector and filter then it will automatically destroy those blocks as soon as you grab them. Be sure that you are absolutely certain you want those items destroyed in that case as they will be gone forever.

Caterpillar

The Caterpillar is a very resourceful tool to automate digging a 3×3 hole; essentially a tool to start a mineshaft. You can add a few attachments to it to gather materials as well as place blocks as it digs.

It’s very simple to build and greatly streamlines your mining. The Drill base and Drill head are the key components but you’ll want to add an Item Collector, Drill Storage, and a Decoration Placer in order to do some of the more advanced tasks. The collector and storage pieces allow the machine to scoop up blocks as it travels.

And the Decoration Placer will place the necessary blocks to properly navigate your new tunnel. All you need to do is supply the drill with the key items (i.e. rails, torches, wood planks, etc) and the machine will do the rest. Soon your tunnel will look like an authentic mine shaft.

The most important aspects of the drill to keep up on are the fuel source, which is coal, and the drill head. You can give it stone, iron, gold, or diamond drill heads but for longevity and if you can afford it, diamond may be your best option.

It’s truly a fantastic mod to get any mine started and for automating a fairly tedious task. Now your mine can get a jump with rails and supports set up for you to return home to. Just set it and forget it… until it needs restocking of course.

Rope Bridge Mod

The Rope Bridge Mod is a great and simple new way to cross long chasms with ease. It’s particularly useful early in the game or if you just want to travel across vast canyons with minimal effort. Plus the bridges are very aesthetically pleasing and a great way to avoid enemies below you.

All you need is a grappling hook assembled with three different parts.

Then it’s just a matter of aiming and firing wherever you need it placed.

Now you can simply walk to the other side, provided you also don’t fall off the side of the bridge. You do also need to keep a steady supply of slabs and string handy in order for the bridge to build itself. And you can seemingly build a bridge as long as you want provided you have the necessary materials in your inventory and you can see the location of where you want to shoot.

TreeOres

The TreeOres mod is a fantastic way to acquire massive amounts of all the ores in the game. If you want to skip the mining but don’t want to succumb to switching to creative mode, then this mod is a perfect way to maintain a steady ore supply while also putting in some work.

The sapling is key to this mod. Each ore sapling will need to start as any sapling surrounded by the desired ores. They are quite expensive as you’ll need to craft the saplings with blocks of ores but it’s well worth it in the long run. Then just plant as you normally would. Bonemeal will also work on these saplings so quick harvesting is definitely possible.

There are three Transformers that are also needed to convert the chopped ore wood to individual ores: normal, nether and reinforced. These are key for harvesting different ores rather than smelting them in a furnace. Obsidian needs a reinforced transformer, Nether items need the Nether one, and all others will use the normal transformer. They are, however, infinitely reusable.

Each tree will drop saplings to further reproduce more oretrees. So creating an ore farm of trees should be fairly simple.

What’s even more amazing is you can craft an XP tree to quickly boost your XP simply by chopping down a few trees.

Realistic Torches

Realistic Torches brings to Minecraft an interesting feature when it comes to crafting light sources. It does as the name describes and provides a more realistic experience with torches. They start unlit when originally crafted and will need to be manually lit using flint & steel or with a matchbox.

The difficulty sets in when the torches burn out. The default setting is for 60 minutes of burn time. This is meant to give the player an incentive to find permanent light sources, like glowstone. If you leave your dwellings lit only by torches you may be left in the dark in the long run. But this mod gives a solution if you prefer the aesthetic of torches. You can craft permanent torches by using glowstone crystals instead of coal. This still forces you to seek out better light but at least you can still use the torch if you want.

Build Faster

The Build Faster mod gives you several new tools for crafting structures in bulk. You can place multiple blocks in a line up to 64 blocks and even copy and paste existing structures with just a few clicks.

With the Claw of Boundary Creation you can select a cube or section of space by clicking one end/corner and then clicking the other end/corner. Then right click to take selection anywhere else you want and hold left click to place it.

There are two wands capable of laying down a row of blocks: The Destructive Linear Conjuration wand and the Non-Desctructive Linear Conjuration wand. One will replace the blocks lying within the frames and the other will stop placing once the frame hits an already placed block. You can shift + scroll to change the number of blocks you want to place up to 64. You’ll also need to put the block you want to place right next to the wand in your inventory row before placing.

You can even place blocks in mid-air!

And with the Orb of Transmutation, you can change a selection of blocks from one type to another in a single click!

But most importantly you can quickly undo the previous few changes by right clicking with any of the wands.

Infernal Mobs

The Infernal Mobs mod gives each enemy in the game special modifiers to make them more challenging to fight. Not all mobs that spawn will have the modifiers but there is a percentage that will throughout your journey. The benefit to fighting harder mobs is that they drop much more XP and even a random enchanted item. So if you’re looking for a new challenge in Minecraft then consider Infernal mobs.

Each modified mob will display their name and type of modifier they have at the top of the screen. The 1UP modifier will cause a mob to heal back to full health when it gets low. This will only happen once during battle but it could put a damper in your fighting if you encounter multiple enemies at once. There’s also a Regen mob that will slowly regain its health as well and this will happen until you can kill it entirely. In a similar regard the Lifesteal mob will gain health with each attack it deals on you.

Ghastly mobs will shoot fireballs and Fiery mobs will set you on fire.

The Ender and Ninja mobs are able to teleport their attacks at you or teleport away from you when you attack.

And probably one of the worst are Cloaking mobs that have a constant invisibility potion effect on them. These can be very dangerous for the obvious reason that you won’t see them coming until they attack.

This mod definitely amps up the enemies in the game and may give you pause when you encounter an enemy you can typically handle in any normal situation.

Telepacks

Telepacks is a simple backpack based mod that allows you to teleport long distances with a click. The basic pack is easy to use and only takes a shift+click to set your starting location.

Then you can set out onto your destination. Whenever you need to get back just right-click and hold and you’ll return instantly.

You can even upgrade to the advanced pack and this allows for traveling between dimensions. The pack works the same as the basic pack and can still be used as one but now you’ll essentially have a portable portal access point wherever you go.

This mod is a quick and easy way to travel far without complicated steps and crafting structures. All you’ll need is this pack and you’re good to go! This mod will need an additional API found here.

Wall Jump

The Wall Jump mod adds a double jump to Minecraft to aid in hopping a few blocks higher than normal height. By hitting ‘J’ you’ll open up the settings for the mod and you can customize a few aspects to suit your needs. The big option there being the ‘auto-turn’ function. This will determine if you do a 180 degree turn after your jump or if you simply jump a bit extra off the wall.

At some point in the game you may come across an area that you’d prefer to get to by jumping, whether it be by design or otherwise. You could even create a structure that’s only accessible by this method!

The double jump is easily achieved by running up to any wall, jumping, and then hitting the jump key again. If you have auto-turn on then you’ll quickly turn around to possibly jump up the next wall across from you. This makes it easier to scale adjacent walls in no time.

And if you find yourself falling from such a great height, you can save yourself by jumping on the nearest wall and getting yourself back up.

This a particularly useful tweak to have when stuck in caves and canyons too. Night may be approaching or mobs nearby and a quick exit by double jumping a nearby ledge could be your saving grace.
