Mo’ Chickens

The Mo’ Chickens mod adds a ton of new chickens that can be tamed as pets, lay more than just eggs, and even give you abilities if you eat certain types; mostly in the range of blindness and slowness but some give you speed or night vision, which is nice.

One of the simplest chickens that may just be your best friend early on in the game is the coal chicken. When you start a new game, sometimes coal is hard to come by. It may be right around the corner, it may be 20 levels below you. Either way you need to hunt for it and night may be coming soon. If you happen to find a coal chicken in the meantime, then your coal troubles are a little less awful. This guy will lay coal when tamed, although you’ll need a bit of coal to tame it first, but at least he’ll keep you company in those early days.

There are several “ore” chickens that will lay different ores when tamed with their respective ingots. This will come in handy if you’d rather not mine for the ores and just like finding random diamonds or ingots around your chicken coops. They come in iron, gold, diamond, emerald, redstone and lapis varieties.

The Ender Chicken is a very useful pet to have around if you’re on the hunt for an end portal. When tamed with an Eye of Ender, it will lay them for you. This makes it easier than trying to hunt for Endermen and not gathering as many materials as quickly as you need them. And while this one can be tamed, it may be just as hard to do so as it is to kill an enderman. Fortunately just carrying an Eye of Ender will tempt it so taming will be a bit easier in that regard.

You can now bring the Nether with you if you come back with a Blazing Chicken, a Glowing Chicken or a Quartz Chicken. They’ll lay Blaze Powder, Glowstone Powder or Quartz when tamed. So unless you need netherrack or soul sand, you won’t need to go back to the Nether anytime soon with these chickens nearby.

And sometimes you might need a steak but maybe you don’t want to kill your cattle. Tame yourself a Beefy Chicken and it’ll lay you some steak instead. Plus, who wouldn’t want a little Chicken Cow running around your yard?

There is one chicken that is there simply to make you angry. It looks like a Diamond Chicken but as soon as you tame it, it reveals its true identity. The Nuuw Chicken is actually just a dirt chicken. It will only lay dirt for you. That’s it. But it will heal 5 hearts for you if you eat it.
